Organisational Structure
A vital partnership was created when the departments of Horticultural Science and Crop Science and the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario (HRIO) became the Department of Plant Agriculture of the University of Guelph, Ontario.
HRIO consists of one central research unit and two branch locations. The headquarters are in Vineland Station, located on the south shore of Lake Ontario west of St.Catharines. The two branch locations are the Simcoe Research Station near the north shore of Lake Erie and the Muck Crops Research Stations near Bradford, in the Holland Marsh north of Toronto. The Vineland Station complex houses the central common services for the whole Institute: administration and accounting, library services, laboratories and engineering expertise for research projects.
The Institute provides applied research and services for the production, evaluation, handling and storage of horticultural produces including fruits, vegetables and ornamentals.
