Organisational Structure
INIA is run by a President substituted by a Vice-President, who has wide powers when decisions are concerned. The INIA's structure includes three types of organs: the central organs, the central departments and the operative departments. The central organs are: the General Council, the Scientific Council and the Administration and Management Department and the Public Relations Department. The operative departments comprehend six National Stations and one Independent Laboratory: The National Agronomic Station (EAN), the National Forestal Station (EFN), The National Station for Genetics and Crops Breeding (ENMP), the National Station for Vinegrowing (EVN), the "Vieira Natividade" National Station for Fruit-Growing (ENFVN) and the "Rebelo da Silva" Chemical Laboratory (LQARS).
EAN, EVN, ENFVN and LQARS are the only ones dealing with horticulture.

Research projects are funded by the institution budget, mainly the PIDDAC (Program for the Implementation of Governmental Services), the PAMAF-IED (R&D-Agriculture and Forestry Modernization Support Program) and other funding resources like those supported by the Ministry of Science and the UE.
