Aroostook County, Maine, has long been known for its tremendous potato production but there is now also considerable interest in development of alternate crops for the same area.

In the southern part of the state there is a growing apple industry and a concentration of vegetables for roadside stands. The low bush blueberry industry is also located principally in the southern and south eastern parts of the state.
