New Hampshire / United States of America

General info

Much of New Hampshire is covered with coarse and medium textured soils of glacial till. The northern half of the state includes steep mountains with shallow soils to bed rock. This land is mainly in forest and some potatoes and is in an area with a short cool growing season. While soils in the southern half of the state are derived from glacial till granitic rock and are therefore fairly shallow. they do respond well to fertilizer and water. Ornamentals, particularly nursery crops, greenhouse crops and turfgrass, are all increasing rapidly in production, and are quite uniformly distributed through the area south of the White mountains. Apples are the most important orchard fruit, with high and low bush blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, the leading small fruit crops. Truck crop production centered in the Merrimack Valley includes a diversity of vegetables produced under irrigation.
